Editing Rights

is that possible? I would like any user to be able to edit the talk pages, for example the FAQ would be sensible for anybody to edit the talk, as would most other pages. --FallingBullets (talk) 10:43, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

yeah, somethings gone wrong somewhere, the URL masking for[PAGENAME] doesnt work no more... it only works if you do index.php?title=[PAGENAME] *dies of shock and annoyance*--FallingBullets (talk) 20:38, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Can you explain why this URL masking thing causes massive problems? I can see what's happened, but why is that a problem? It shouldn't be being used like that anyway, we should be using {{fullurl:{{PAGENAME}}}}, it works fine: -- freedo50 (talk contribs blocks protects deletions moves rights)  22:31, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
Fred it did used to be like that, even wikipedia is like that, it's very annoying ~ Jonathan (Warrior) @  07:26, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
yeah, you must have changed a setting somewhere, as it used to go to /Freedo50 now it goes to ?title=Freedo50 but before mentioning it, all internal links went to /Freedo50 and got redirected to Main_Page which was annoying, but somethings fixed now :) --FallingBullets (talk) 12:19, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Very strange, I certainly didn't change anything yesterday, maybe it was juts a temporary thing while Jeronij was working on the server updates? -- freedo50 (talk contribs blocks protects deletions moves rights)  14:24, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
It still is not fixed for me, it is very annoying when you get a link that still uses it, this page might help [1] ~ Jonathan (Warrior) @  21:06, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Heyhey :)

hey, Happy christmas too you, good to see you around... quite a bit of editing you have been doing since I dissapeared XD, hope its going all right --FallingBullets (talk) 19:57, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

uh I am getting the Permition Denied warning on the staff pages :S --FallingBullets (talk) 06:28, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

I am too, it seems to be logging people out when they try to get in there. If you click the login link on the error page then you should be able to get in. I don't know why it's doing this, but I'll have a look for answers... -- freedo50 (talk contribs blocks protects deletions moves rights)  14:21, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Syntax Help

hey Fred: should I create a BSC_Team category or is it Team:BSC?? for the users that are in BSC. I have created NAM_Team so is that the syntax? --JoeST 08:37, 28 July 2008 (CDT)

hey, i dont know for certain. i would prefer the team:bsc one if that doesn't affect the way it is handled by the wiki parser, but if it does, BSC_Team is just as good. --freedo50 08:38, 28 July 2008 (CDT)
rightyo, will create Team:BSC and Team:CAM with team lists from Category:Team:BSC and Category:Team:CAM respectively and move Category:NAM_Team and NAM_Team??? --JoeST 08:41, 28 July 2008 (CDT)
I invited MAS71 along for his expertise in content databases, so if he makes an account should we (you) move MAS71 to User:MAS71? or leave it as is?
also ... well there was something else but i forgot it hehe --JoeST 09:24, 28 July 2008 (CDT)
lol, yeah i think we should. --freedo50 10:18, 28 July 2008 (CDT)

is there a way to hide a page from normal users? so admin only pages? --JoeST 15:19, 28 July 2008 (CDT)

there are some extensions, but most of the ones i've seen require modifiying the main install, which i'm not prepared to do. I'll keep looking though. --freedo50 06:41, 29 July 2008 (CDT)

Error Fix

I thought of a "fix" for the image bug... (which is still prolific). Add this to index.php:

ini_set('display_errors', 'off');

it simply turns all error displaying off, there isnt any other php errors with the software, and you can always remove it when you edit the code ;) --JoeST 11:07, 28 July 2008 (CDT)

GREAT CALL JOE! Lovely to finally get rid of those buggers. --freedo50 11:11, 28 July 2008 (CDT)

Category Help

Joe, do you know if it possible to remove a page from a category where a template has added it? ATM all the templates are added to their respective request categories and so is the "Marking Articles" article. --freedo50 11:13, 28 July 2008 (CDT)

I dont think so, but you could copy the template source into the marking page (which might go better under Help:Marking_Articles ??) --JoeST 11:26, 28 July 2008 (CDT)
Hmmm, I don't really want to do that thouh, the page will become bloated and completely unreadable then... --freedo50 11:27, 28 July 2008 (CDT)
the source would become bloated, but you could section it up with
<!--comments -->
and I meant adding the source for each template into the source of the Marking page --JoeST 11:32, 28 July 2008 (CDT)
I just tried it and it seems you cant nest tables, it just broke. --freedo50 11:41, 28 July 2008 (CDT)
Pity --11:49, 28 July 2008 (CDT)
Got it, if you use
instead, it substitutes the code in when you save the page, then you can back and edit out the categories. --freedo50 12:29, 28 July 2008 (CDT)

Language Question

is it possilbe for us to have a page in 2 different languages?

yes, i'm not exactly sure how, but i'll take a look at the mediawiki website. --freedo50 11:27, 28 July 2008 (CDT)
well it looks like the easiest way of doing it is to add subpages called by the language code EG CAM/fr is the French page for CAM
yeah, it looks like its a long term goal that they want to add support for multiple languages in the same wiki. in the meantime do what you said and link to them from the bottom of the page. Maybe you could create a template that automatically constructs the URLs for the links if you say this page is available in french and german too. EG you type {{altlang|fr,de,en}} it produces a table saying "this page is also available in...". I would try, but you can probably do it much easier than me ;) --freedo50 11:37, 28 July 2008 (CDT)
i have "stolen" the mediawiki {{Template:Languages}} template and have copied it here, so now language version is under [pagename]/[language code] and if the template is added to the bottom of the page source it will display each language that exists (i think) --JoeST 12:14, 28 July 2008 (CDT)
Done, you add {{Template:Languages}} to a page to display all its languages and a language appears under [pagename]/[language code] --JoeST 12:14, 28 July 2008 (CDT)
Great work, that was very fast considering how broken it looked at first! I'm uploading a new version of the globe right now, because that one's a bit small. --freedo50 12:16, 28 July 2008 (CDT)

It still doesnt work... hehe, need to figure out why --JoeST 12:52, 28 July 2008 (CDT)

FIXED it... kinda, now you just need to add each translations language code as a new option for it to be included. YAY :) check out admin:test you can only have 19 languages atm, but more can be added as is :) --JoeST 04:14, 29 July 2008 (CDT)

Template Talk Links

I think we should change the templates so that their links to the talk pages are like they used to be... --JoeST 05:48, 29 July 2008 (CDT)

All old talk can be found at User_talk:Fredo50/archive

Can it? Check the link :P --freedo50 07:25, 30 July 2008 (CDT)
User_talk:Freedo50/archive then :p --JoeST 07:30, 30 July 2008 (CDT)
I've copied it all back here because I'd prefer to have all the info in one place. I will delete the /archive page too. --freedo50 07:47, 30 July 2008 (CDT)
Maybe move it to an Admin: page??? cause its all "development" info isnt it --JoeST 08:06, 30 July 2008 (CDT)

Hey Freedo,

Now i'm here, is there anything that you'd like me to do? Designing? Coding? Creating? Copying? etc...
