The RealRailway (RRW) project is an effort headed up by Swordmaster of the NAM Team. As per the project's FAQ, it is a modification that changes the appearance and adds functionality to the game's heavy rail systems, operating on a similar paradigm as the RealHighway and Project Symphony systems. The project stemmed from Swordmaster's attempts at redesigning and rescaling the Rail network in 2012, and, armed with further knowledge of the NAM's workings and extensive research into real-world rail systems, he began formulating the RRW. The project's development thread went public on June 15, 2013.

As it incorporates new content, beyond just retexturing, and it deals with the Rail network, the previous Rail Addon Mod (RAM) project, which had been in and out of indefinite hiatuses, has become deprecated, in favor of focusing all railway efforts toward the RRW.

The initial RRW offerings were made public as part of the NAM 32 release in January 2014, in an early stage of development.
